Overfill, a condition in tank trailers that are loaded without, in some instances, having fully dispensed previous product, is a flammable, environmentally-damaging threat to safety. Fortunately, there are technological solutions to stop overfill, but slow adoption is keeping the fuel supply chain at risk.

For the last few decades, analog non-permissive overfill-detection systems have sidelined tank trailers. Performing manual diagnostics to find the source of the problem, which likely requires a trip to a repair shop, is time-consuming, and it can halt a fuel delivery operation. Having to search for the cause of this type of tank trailer issue is becoming a thing of the past, however, as new digital systems offer real-time diagnosis.

Artificial intelligence and digital reporting are being integrated into industries at a rapid pace, allowing businesses to operate with a greater knowledge of their performance and improved process control. However, this process has been slow in tank truck transportation, where analog and manually activated technology are the standard.
