Since 2011, ColVic, the leading OPW distributor in South Africa, has grown KPS market penetration from a zero base to 35%. This has resulted in a large increase in the need for engineers trained in the installation of KPS piping. To satisfy this, ColVic has more than doubled the size of its Johannesburg training facility.
ColVic Marketing Director Mike Welman said:
"The additional investment in the only OPW-accredited facility in Africa followed burgeoning sales of KPS products and growing demand for quality installations among customers".
"From the get go, we backed KPS’ policy of requiring all installers to undergo training, as well as refresher courses, at a certified training centre before they were supplied with pipe for fitment on site. As sales have grown we have seen a corresponding increase in the demand for training to the point where our South African training centre at its previous size could not cope".
ColVic’s South African training centre is located in Johannesburg and offers theoretical as well as practical training on all aspects of KPS piping, products in the Fibrelite range and related HSSE procedures.
As well as meeting South African needs, the increased capacity also enables ColVic to consider its options for expansion into other countries in Africa in conjunction with OPW, using the capability resident at the training centre to underpin the initiative.
