While not as flashy as smart phones that can do pretty much anything, the underground storage tank (UST) and fueling system equipment that are essential to the proper operation of motor fuel storage and fueling processes are true technological marvels.
That technology is also a lot like a referee – it only gets attention when something goes wrong. That is why the manufacturers of these critical systems and components work so diligently to help ensure they operate safely and reliably to protect site personnel, customers, surrounding communities and the environment.
Taking this mission to heart, OPW Retail Fueling designs, manufactures, tests and provides UST equipment, piping and containment systems, and dispensing equipment that support and help protect consumers and the environment at retail fueling sites. Many of OPW’s systems and equipment – some of which may be viewed as mundane or not viewed at all since they are buried underground – have been the industry standard for many years.
OPW is constantly working to improve the performance of its products, as this list of recent innovations illustrates:
- 14 Series Fuel Nozzles: All 14 Series nozzles feature innovative, patented spout technology that is designed to limit the loss of fuel during the refueling process, resulting in a cleaner, greener fueling experience. The 14 Series nozzles are available in three models: the CARB-approved 14E with an interlock system that activates fuel flow; the 14BP for a cleaner fueling experience without an interlock; and the 14C featuring patent-pending diesel-capture technology that collects remaining fuel in the spout and releases it during the next fueling event.
- Watertight Wonders: This portfolio of tank sumps, multiports, manhole covers, spill containers and low-profile sump products have all been designed to help stop water intrusion into the UST. Their ability to provide reliable watertightness is critical because water-fouled fuel is a growing industry concern that can hamper the operation of the driver’s vehicle and possibly result in repair, cleanup and remediation costs for the site operator.
- HiFlo Loop System: Building on the enduring success of the Loop System, which was introduced by OPW a decade ago, the HiFlo Loop System has been built to handle high-flow fueling applications, such as those found at truck stops and hybrid convenience-store setups that feature truck fueling lanes. Each component in the HiFlo Loop System – sumps, entry fittings, shear valves, piping and test ports – arrive at the site factory pre-assembled and can all be serviced from the forecourt surface with no need to break concrete.
Another benefit for the operator is that new equipment and systems typically have been designed to be compliant with new regulations that have come down the pike since the old components were installed. A site that is found to be out-of-compliance can have severe operational and monetary consequences for its operator.
While most UST and fueling systems can perform nobly for many years, sometimes it just pays to upgrade. For those operators with the mindset to improve their fueling operation, OPW Retail Fueling offers a complete series of next-generation systems and equipment that have been designed to take retail fueling site performance to a higher level.
